Nearly 16 years ago, when my son Jacob was only a few weeks old, we visited my mother and stepdad at their home in Natchitoches.
I will never forget this.
We were standing on the front porch. I was holding Jacob, who was so small and yet somehow big enough to contain my entire world. I was overwhelmed with this new knowledge, that I could love a person so completely.
My mother was standing next to us. She leaned in and, quietly so only I could hear, said, "Now you know how much I love you."
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers, and especially mine, who give us unconditional love and support, and who make us believe that, no matter how small we may feel, we contain within us the entire world.
